Who are the AA&I Committee ?
We are a group of 18 individuals, a mix of Community Councillors and members of the public. Except for the secretary, we all have an equal say when it comes to funding decisions. The secretary also acts as treasurer and has no say in funding decisions. None of us are paid for our work but the secretary will receive an honorarium payment in recognition of the extra duties they do.
Where does AA&I get its money from ?
Various sources, some from donations to us, some from collections at events we sponsor but mostly from a share of income from the caravan site which we jointly own with the Golf Club.
What do we donate to ?
From our constitution:
The objectives of AA&I are:-
To support the advertising and promotion of the village of Aberdyfi and its environs.
To carry out or assist improvements (in the widest use of the word be they physical, social,
economic or cultural) to the village.
To support events and activities that develop the promotion and improvement of the village.
Do we carry out works ourselves ?
AA&I only provides funding, collectively we do not carry out works ourselves. However, we all live in the village and may work or be involved in work for other organisations.
How are AA&I members chosen?
Community Councillors, unless they opt out are automatically made members. As for members from the public - we don't choose them unless there are more applicants than vacancies. We try to advertise vacancies here, on the Community Council web site, in the Rushlight newsletter and if possible, in shop windows. Anybody living in the village can apply to fill a vacancy, we work democratically and treat all applicants equally.
What does committment as a member involve?
At most a few hours a week of their time and attendance at evening meetings every few months. The member must be impartial and show no favouritism when deciding if an application is accepted. If a request is received that could cause a conflict of interest, that member will refrain from voting on the matter.
Can I join the AA&I Committee?
If you live in Aberdyfi or nearby and are at least 18 years old you are perfectly welcome to join when a vacancy arises. Keep an eye open for vacancies being advertised and send us a message on the contact page. We will then write back with more information.
Are AA&I meetings open to the public?
Yes, but only if you ask beforehand. We usually meet on-line or in small rooms so we may have to arrange a larger venue or give you logging-in information for you to observe. We do not allow members of the public to speak at meetings unless they have been invited or have requested to do so well before the meeting starts.
Does AA&I have a formal Constitution?
We certainly do, it's a bit big to show on a web page but you can download a copy by clicking here.
